Changes in Moodle 4.5 include new streamlined course editing options, some much requested new notifications and more.
To bring you up to date with all that the new and improved Moodle LMS has to offer, we’ve compiled a full functionality breakdown of what you can expect when upgrading to Moodle 4.5 with Hubken.
Course navigation
Smaller activity icons
Activity icons have been reduced in size for a cleaner look and feel.
View a single section
When viewing a course, click on a section in the course index to see only that section
Expand/collapse all in the course index
Click an icon to expand or collapse the course index.
Course creation and editing
New section view option when editing a course
When editing mode is on, a course editor can view a specific section by clicking the “View” option in the section edit list.
Add a resource or activity anywhere
The plus icon appears wherever you hover on the course to allow you to place new activities or resources exactly where you need them.
Activity completion drop-down menus
Change the activity completion settings directly from the course page.
Group icons for teachers
Change the group settings from the course page.
Availability options menu
Change activity or resource visibility from the course page.
Group membership setting
When creating or editing groups, you can now fully control who can see groups and members with the new “Group membership visibility” setting.
Text and media area title
You can give text and media area resources a title which will appear in the course index.
Quiz and question bank
Course editors can customise question numbers
When creating a quiz, you can allocate specific numbers to each question.
New 'Ordering' question type
Put jumbled items into a meaningful order. You can use words, images or both.
Assignment
Assignment messaging
Teachers can select users in the assignment submissions screen and send them a message.
Grant attempts automatically
Learners can now be issued new attempts automatically. Either indefinitely or until they pass.
H5P
Quickly create a copy of any content in the content bank.
All activities and resources
Progressive display of completion conditions. You won’t see the full options unless they are applicable.
Notifications
- New customisable welcome messages for manual course enrolments
- Learners can now receive notifications for upcoming and overdue assignments
- Learners can receive notifications when a quiz is about to open
Custom reports
- New “User badges” report source
- Badges issued to users, including badge details
- New “Comments” report source
- Comments made about users
- New “Course categories” report source
- Course categories and the courses they contain
- New “Competencies” report source
- Competencies and who has achieved them
- New "Role" report source
- Allows you to report on user’s roles on the platform and their context
- More filters
- Filter by cohort, context, file size, type, and more
Authentication
- Multi-factor authentication (MFA)
- Sometimes called “Two-Step Verification”. You can require users to authenticate via SMS, email, or authenticator app in addition to entering their username and password
User management
The ‘Browse list of users’ page contains redesigned filters and a bulk actions option. All the functions available through “Bulk user actions” are now also available via the user list.
