Background & Company Overview
Dermaroller is a leader in the microneedling space, supplying medical-grade devices, advanced skincare formulations, and comprehensive training programs. With a global reach in over 50 countries and a dedicated team of 50 employees, the company empowers dermatologists, aestheticians, and distributors with scientifically backed treatments and practices. This robust commitment to innovation and quality has positioned Dermaroller as a trusted partner in both clinical and aesthetic settings.
Challenges driving change
As microneedling gained popularity worldwide, Dermaroller faced several critical challenges:
- Growing Demand for Standardised Training: Inconsistent training methods across regions risked undermining the quality of treatment delivery.
- Global Expansion: Traditional in-person training was neither scalable nor cost-effective for an expanding international network.
- Regulatory & Certification Requirements: Adherence to CPD accreditation and industry standards necessitated a structured, trackable training framework.
- Distributor & Reseller Support: The need to equip partners with accessible, on-demand training resources became paramount.
These challenges underscored the necessity for a centralised, flexible, and scalable e-learning solution that could adapt to the varied needs of a global audience.
The Digital Transformation: Adopting Totara via Hubken
Dermaroller conducted an extensive evaluation of LMS platforms, ultimately deciding on Hubken Group to implement and host a Totara LMS platform for its ability to address both immediate and long-term needs. Key factors influencing this decision included:
- Flexibility & Customisation: Totara supports tailored learning journeys for diverse user groups - doctors, aestheticians, and distributors.
- CPD Accreditation Support: The platform’s structured, trackable learning paths ensure industry compliance.
- Scalability & Multi-Tier Access: Totara efficiently manages various levels of access, safeguarding sensitive content while providing relevant training.
- User-Friendly Interface & Analytics: An intuitive design and comprehensive reporting tools empower users and administrators alike.
Key Features Leveraged
Dermaroller’s success with Totara was underpinned by a number of key features:
- Multi-tenant User Access: Customised profiles ensure each group accesses the content most relevant to them.
- Customisable Learning Paths: Personalised journeys, from foundational microneedling to advanced business development, drives unique, effective, self-paced learning.
- Microlearning Modules: Bite-sized training sessions, including interactive quizzes and short courses, accommodate busy professionals.
- Real-Time Reporting & Analytics: Detailed insights into course engagement and compliance enable ongoing optimisation.
- Mobile Accessibility: A mobile-responsive design allows practitioners to learn anytime, anywhere, fostering continuous professional development.
- Integration Capabilities: The potential to integrate with third-party tools, such as CRM and eCommerce platforms, promises a future-ready, interconnected learning ecosystem.
Totara’s multi-tiered access model enables Dermaroller to support their different user groups (doctors, aestheticians, distributors) by dividing them into unique 'audience groups'. Combining this with the using the 'profile field' to highlight whether they are a doctor/ nurse etc., gives Dermaroller the reporting ‘key’ to know which types of users are using the platform and therefore automatically deliver tailor-made courses that fit best with that specific audience.
This particularly important for compliance oversight. Dermarollers courses have been approved by the CPD and they need to comply with all of their standards and recommendations. Because of the Totara platform, they are able to track and report each individual as well as groups of audiences to monitor whether they have successfully completed any mandatory course and successfully passed the relevant test required to gain certification. Reminder emails both to the specific learner and to us are automatically sent out so that compliance with CPD standards can be easily controlled and managed.
The global scalability and impact of the Totara platform extends well beyond internal teams. This has given Dermaroller the scope to build unique landing pages through the ' tenants' option within the platform and scale this to our distributors worldwide who can in turn manage their customers through the platform. This has reduced training time for both internal Dermaroller staff as well as for our distributors. Indeed, we are no longer bound to time zone differences, and are now able to offer 24/7 around-the-clock training.
