Frequently asked LMS questions
FAQs
What is an LMS?
An LMS is a software platform that helps you create, manage, and deliver eLearning courses. Our learning management packaged solution (HubkenCore) delivers the design, functionality, flexibility and security to scale for any team and use case needed.
What is an LXP?
Learning Experience Platforms (LXPs) are the natural next ‘evolution’ of an LMS and are much more employee-centric than organisation-centric with regards to your employees learning experience. An LXP is much more collaborative and user-driven, enabling your learner’s to forge their own e-learning and online training paths alongside the organisation’s learning paths. Users are able to curate their own playlists and engaging content and share it with their work colleagues.
Why should I use an LMS?
A good LMS can significantly improve many of your usual business operations, streamlining and automating many admin tasks that are currently eating up large amounts of your employees’ time. Our LMS Solutions are designed to fit the workflow of you and your people, making it easy to train, onboard new employees, ensure compliance, collaborate amongst teams, and minimise costly face to face training.
What are the features of an LMS?
-
- E-learning content management tools
- Assessments and testing
- Hierarchies / role management
- Automation
- Mobile learning
- Reporting
- Communication and collaboration
- Gamification
What is social learning in an LMS?
Your LMS should enable social learning, empowering learners by giving them the ability to talk to one another, upload and share their own content and interact with learning content, seeing newsfeeds, comments, shares, chats, etc. This is important because informal learning is integral to how your teams learn in today’s social media era.
Why is reporting and analytics important in choosing my LMS?
-
- The individual - the ability to look at assessments, course completions, points/badges earned, compliance and progress through programmes
- The course - shows how many of your learners have/have not completed the material, how teams are performing, and the ability to make changes to courses if they’re not achieving what’s required.
- System-wide - shows how engaged your learners are with the system - how many people are logging in over a given timeframe, how they interact with the system, how active they are, etc
What is SCORM?
What does open-source mean?
Open-source LMS tools are often free to use and customise - unlike proprietary software with restrictive copyright licences (meaning you can't change source code to improve the design). Essentially, this means that an open-source LMS allows more customisation without necessarily having to purchase expensive licences. Moodle LMS is probably the best known open source LMS solution.
What does SaaS mean?
Software as a service (SaaS) is a software distribution model in which a cloud provider hosts applications and makes them available to end users over the internet. We offer a SaaS LMS (HubkenCore) solution that is packed full of features and doesn’t require you to install specific hardware or software to access and use it. Easily scalable, our popular LMS solution is easy to implement, low maintenance, secure and flexible.
How secure are your servers?
We employ 256-bit SSL encryption to secure the transmission of data between your platform and our secure data centre, protected by the best encryption keys in the industry. HubkenCore is a web-hosted, cloud-based learning management system, but you can be reassured that our servers containing the software application and your data are housed in secure, world-class, professionally run facilities.
